Welcoming Chancellor Philip Hammond’s budget announcement to abolish stamp duty for first-time buyers, partner at Holland Broadbridge Gary Holland comments:

“Stamp duty for all first-time buyer purchases up to £300,000 will be abolished, immediately. The measure will also apply on the first £300,000 for first-time buyer purchases up to £500,000, which means the market will open up at the lower end. It is an encouraging move and we welcome Government’s pledge, enabling more first-time buyers to get a foot on the property ladder and realise their dream of home ownership.

“With property prices across Shropshire notably lower compared to the south of the country, the impact of this latest statement may not be quite so heartfelt, nevertheless it is a positive step forward for the next generation and for the ‘bank’ of mum and dad.”

Gary added: “At Holland Broadbridge we offer a wide portfolio of properties to appeal to the first-time buyer, including renovation projects, one or two bedroom terraced homes through to fully refurbished properties. We are continually seeking new instructions at this end of the market and would urge vendors to take advantage of the likely renewed demand which we may well experience following this latest Government announcement.”
